About Us

AIM:

The association is to assist the refugee settlers from Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam and other countries who are living in Kanagawa Prefecture and its neighborhood, on voluntary and nonprofit bases with no bias of politics, religions and ideas.

ACTIVITIES:

(1)   Organizes and coordinates Japanese language classes for refugee settlers.

(2)  Organizes a seminar for Japanese language teaching volunteers.

(3)   Provides consultations for refugee settlers.

(4)   Organizes cultural exchange programs of refugee settlers.

(5)   Publishes newsletters.

(6)   Introduces personnel such as lecturers, translators and interpreters.

OUR ACTIVITIES IN DETAIL

JAPANESE LANGUAGE CLASSES Every week Japanese language classes of different levels are held, aimed at enabling the learners to build good relationship in the community through the use of necessary Japanese. (Yamato, Ayase, Ebina, Yokohama, Chigasaki, Hiratsuka)
KAMI-IIDA PARENTS AND CHILDREN’S JAPANESE LANGUAGE CLASS

In cooperation with two neighboring elementary schools and one junior high school, systematic instruction of Japanese required for the lessons of elementary and junior high schools is held 20 to 30 times per year. It is part of the Agency for Cultural Affairs, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology consignment enterprise and the Yokohama board-of-education sponsorship enterprise.

STUDY ROOMS Every week, study rooms are held for elementary school pupils, junior and senior high school students where they can get assistance with their school works.(Yamato, Yokohama, Ayase)
TRAINING SEMINAR ON JAPANESE LANGUAGE TEACHING VOLUNTEERS Once a year a seminar on Japanese language teaching volunteers is conducted. The seminar is meant to teach the basic knowledge of Japanese language teaching method at the same time growing common awareness and making friendship among the participants.
BRUSH UP SEMINARS ON JAPANESE LANGUAGE TEACHING VOLUNTEERS

Occasionally, seminars to brush up Japanese language teaching volunteers are held in order to improve the quality of teaching methods.

LEGAL CONSULTATION

Once a month a volunteer lawyer comes to the office for legal consultation. Vietnamese, Lao and Cambodian interpreters are available if necessary.  
CONSULTATION OF GENERAL LIVING Twice a week, consultation of general living is held where the refugee settlers can come to ask for assistance in official procedures such as immigration, job placement, local government, schools and hospitals.                   
NEWSLETTER PUBLISHING The newsletter “YUAI” is published twice a year for the members and related organizations, and the “TSUSHIN” is for the refugee settlers, published twice a year in Vietnamese, Lao and Cambodian translation.
